We need info on Punta Cana rentals. We are thinking on moving to Punta Cana area, Bavaro, and need some inputs on rentals, for short and long tern m lease. We need a 1 bedroom all furnished with electricity and WIFI included, until we decide to stay. After we will need a two bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. We need area and price per month if possible in a secure area, aND walking distance to shopping centre if possible. We are from Quebec Canada and need warm winters and good place to retire. I am 66 years old, my wife is 63 and both in very good health. But would require something on ground floor or with elevetors.
Thank you in advance Guy

If you are open to different parts of the country you may want to consider Costambar, Puerto Plata. Its a very safe gated community on the north coast and very reasonably priced. Here is my website for information on it, www.costambar.org .

I think that it is difficult to find a long term rental that includes electricity. If you do let me know, as we are planning to be in Punta Cana this winter. Thanks

It is almost impossible to find a rental with electricity included.
The best way to find anything is to actually be here!

Thank you for your reply, very much appreciated, I will let you know when we make the move. So far as per immigration lawyers we do not meet the required retirement amount of $1750 US per month, but we have good savings that does not seem to count. We do not want to buy for at least a year, so it seems we cannot expatriate to the DR. We are now looking at Ecuador or Panama, where we could retire there for $800 a month.
Regards Guy

I don't know about Ecuador but you cannot retire in Panama for $800 per month unless you live very poorly. Panama is no longer cheap. I lived there for a few years and just moved back to the US recently. The cost of living is comparable to SW Florida! The immigration requirements have also changed and you need to prove much more than an $800 per month pension for a pensionado in Panama. I would check out more recent information for both Panama and Ecuador in terms of cost of living and immigration requirements.

Would it be reasonable for a real estate agent in the Punta Cana area to have knowledge of places outside of PC?

Hi. I am an estate agent in Sosua/Cabarete and can tell you that most agents know their own territory (Mine is Cofresi to Rio San Juan) but I don't know other parts of the island, nor would I be excited about taking someone for a two hour journey to see a place, only for them to say "Its not for me" even after sending them pictures and details. My advice is use the local agent as they also know of other properties including those listed by competitors, as there is no MLS over here. Also, they should be able to answer all your questions about a neighborhood.
