Hi Rob, I have lived here since last December, I moved from Texas, and I love the small town fel of Cabrera and the people are warm and friendly.
There are somewhere around twenty expats in my Bible Study Group and another ten or so that hang out at Manny bar on Saturday afternoons . We are meeting this Sunday for a Bar-B-Que on the beach and there should be between 15 to 25 or 30 people , I'll attach instructions if you want to come,it's a Pot Luck deal. DETAILS
1) Location: Playa Caletone
2) Date / Time: Sunday June 25th, 12:00 ( Elizabeth & I will go early to secure the best possible place to set up camp)
3) Food: Pot luck ( AS soon as you know what you intend to bring as your share item, send me an e-mail and I will send a periodic updated list of what people are bringing so we don't get to much duplication. Bring enough for 6-8 people to share) plusyour own drinks and meat. Your Meat can be already cooked or Sebastian has offered to be our grille master and will cook fresh meat for you.
4) Grille- Barbecue / Sebastian & I will go early and bring wood for cooking and get the coal bed going, Sebastian will bring the grill top to cook on over the bed of coals and will be the Chef. So as noted, Bring YOUR OWN fresh meat/fish etc if you want it grilled.
5) There will be tables, chairs and loungers for rent or you can bring your own
6) It is about 12.5 miles from The Garcia's Grocery store in Cabrera, 5-7 minutes past Playa Grande. After Playa Grande, watch for a 4 foot long white hanging rectangular sign on your right with what looks like a black fish carcass / bones on it. Shortly after that you will see a very little bridge with yellow concrete walls 1 to 2 feet tall. Right after that you will see a little old building/house on your right sitting almost on the street. The entrance is 10 feet past this house and is a rocky bumpy little road. Go slow. Follow it to the beach. There is parking and you may see people trying to sell you parking but continue until you get to the beach and you should find free parking there although, there is usually 3 or 4 young boys offering to help guide you to a parking place and to watch you car for a few pesos and they will also help you back out if parking is tight. I usually give them 25-50 pesos, to help out and they are providing a service. : )
Hope you can make it, take care and God Bless. Lance
