Greetings,
My husband and I will be traveling the North Coast, while staying in Las Terrenas this December. Our trip is half vacation, half scouting trip to explore possible/hopeful retirement in DR in three years. I would very much like to have a meeting with a local expat/ real estate person to discuss our dreams and see if they can indeed become reality. So many questions!

From what I have heard the area you are considering has a crime increase in the past few months mainly dealing with drugs. I would consider looking in and around the Nagua,Cabrera and Rio San Juan areas and you can go online and check out DR Coastal Properties.com for your real estate needs.

Kind of curious, where have you heard about increase in crime due to drugs in LT? Since I've been living here for five years now and not hearing much about this, I'd really appreciate the info on the source.

I heard it from some expats who have just moved here to Cabrera . They were referring to the Drugs being sold on the streets there. And the increase in the Russians moving there like they are moving to Punta Cana and Puerta Plata.

Wow, now that is really interesting! In the five years I've been here, I was only offered pot once. But, I guess, it's same as everywhere, you find what you're looking for.
As far as Russians, also curious. I speak Russian, and if anything, there has been a decrease in Russians here as their currency went down. There are maybe five or six families left here. I do have to ask, Russians and drug sales in the same paragraph, was this written with purpose, or is this just a coincidence?
