A friend and I are looking to move to DR, likely the Sosua area in 2017. We have been to DR a few times on vacation but our next trip at the end of Sept will be spent looking at rentals and purchases. What is involved if we want to come live in DR for 10 months of the year? Like 5 months there one month in canada. Must we become Dominican citizens? What's the maximum one can stay before applying. We are not retired yet but in a few years and are ready to take a few years off and enjoy the quiet life. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

You don't need citizenship, but getting residency would be a good idea. You may just want to spend your first five month trip looking at different areas and comparing what they offer. It would also give you a chance to talk to lawyers and find one you are comfortable with. There is only a small overstayed fee to pay when you leave. I live in Costambar ( www.costambar.org ) and it offers a lot to people whom are looking to retire. Cheers, Mike
