Recently retired, divorced and empty nest. I love sand, sun and sailing. What is the best, and most financially reasonable part of DR to consider? Is it easy to find a 1br place to live? Thanks!

I have lived in Costambar, Puerto Plata for ten years and it is fantastic. It is a gated comunitty with a nice beech minutes outside the city of Puerto Plata. Its safe, very affordable ( a furnished one bedroom apartment with internet and cable tv can easily be found for $400 US monthly ) and has everything an expat would want or need. My website is www.costambar.org and has plenty of information. Feel free to contact me with questions,
Mike

You might also consider Luperon located about 25 km west of Puerto Plata. It has a protected bay, several beaches, three marinas and a friendly community of expat boaters, some of them living on their boats and some living on land. Living costs, including rentals and restaurants, are very reasonable. It's a small laid-back community, with fishing and dairy farming as it's main economic activities. Gringos are well integrated into the local community. Worth a look.

My name is Bill Fisher. My wife and I are going to Punta Cana for 10 days starting December 2, 2016. We live in Ft. Worth, TX but we lived in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico for 10 years before we moved to Texas. I would like to check out Punta Cana as a place to live or at least to spend 6 months to a year. If you know anyone in Punta Cana that I could make contact with please let me know. My email address is billfisher43@gmail.com

I am in the same situation as phillipstevens but a little bit further along. Right now, I have been looking for apartments. Because I want to be on the sand, the prices are higher, about double at this time of year. I agree Costambar has decent places for low prices, as does Costa Dorada and other places near Puerto Plata. I would love to get to know other expats in the Puerto Plata area, especially Americans, as everyone seems to be German that I run into. Give me a call 801-860-8274 or email me clarknewhall@gmail.com . I will be in POP a couple of weeks in Jan and every month thereafter and would like to hoist a cold Presidente with you.
