Hi, I'm new here and very much looking to got out of the USA. I have a number of questions. If anyone here has a little time, would you be able to answer a few? Thanks... Here they are:
1. Can you tell me about earthquakes and tsunamis there... yes I'm one of those "ugly Americans" who pretty much knows nothing about the DR
2. My husband is a computer scientist... is the internet good enough for him to work there remotely? From a US company?
3. I have one child who will need to go to school, how much are schools? And will she get a decent education?
4. Our family has just had some seriously bad luck in the US... examples: we got embezzled for hundreds of thousands of dollars.. we got caught with 2 houses during the market crash... our adoption fell through 2x for our youngest... My oldest has a serious health disorder and for 8 years we racked up tons of medical bills despite having insurance... The bottom line is my husband has been trying to get us caught up for 7 years and it just isn't going to happen. He's working himself to death and he finally agreed to get out!! Please tell me if I'm nuts for wanting to do this for my family...

Thank you in advance for answering my questions...

Hello kimberly3714

1. The Dominican Republic and surrounding areas has minor tremors on a weekly basis ranging from 3 to ocasionally 4 on the Richter scale. Larger earthquakes typically occur once every several years. Construction standards in the DR have been set in place to withstand earthquakes of above 7. Tsunamis are almost unheard of in the DR. The last one occuring in the 1940's which only affected the community of Nagua on the north coast.

2. Internet is very good from larger cities. One can purchase speeds of up to 100 MB/s via fiber optics for a home/personal connection. (Available in Santo Domingo and some other cities). Larger speeds are available for business. I personally worked remotely from the DR for many years.

3. Many private school are accredited by US accrediting associations. For these US-accredited school tuitions range from US 5K - 12k per child. Prices vary depending on grade. These schools can be found in Santo Domingo, Santiago, Sosua and Punta Cana.

4. The cost of health care in the DR is less than 25% or more in comparison to the US. Health insurance is also inexpensive.
