Jobs and apartments in Martinique

Hello everyone! I am an American with Swedish citizenship (EU passport). I currently live in Florida and I am looking at moving to either Martinique or St. Martin.

How are living situations down there? Are apartments easy to come by? How about people looking for roommates?

Can anyone recommend a good website down there that is like craigslist? Or local newspapers where I could look for roommates or apartments.

Thank you so much for your help. Jason

Hi Jason,

I just moved to Martinique 2 months ago and the best tip I can give you is: learn to speak French as quick as you can (if you dont already of course). Its pretty expensive, but really beautiful place to live and there are plenty of appartments to rent. Check out site: http://www.annoncesjaunes.fr/immobilier-location/appartement/a/martinique/
Hope this helps! Regards, Marjoeska

Hi Jason,

I moved about 5 years ago to Martinique and then moved back to Florida while maintaining a house in Martinique. I love Martinique and it is great but I recommend to first visit the island for a long vacation. You have to see the place yourself, find out if you want to live in the city (FDF), in the countryside or at the ocean. With your Swedish passport you could work without any need for work permit, you can even participate at local and regional elections. Martinique can be quite expensive. On the other hand, groceries are cheap and you won't need much clothing. You can find information about vacation rentals on HomeAway.com.
