Retirement to the French Caribbean

I am thinking of wintering in either Guadeloupe or Martinique or other French Island. I have lived in France for 25 years. I will rent a small place to start with - any recommendations or views on any on the French Caribbean will be appreciated. I am not a retiring millionaire therefore cost and quality of life is a factor

Hi,

My name is Laurence and I live in MQ with my husband and 4yo daughter. Thinking of wintering in Martinique or Guadeloupe is a great idea but it's true that the cost of living is higher but it's also true that life is different here, more simple more genuiwine.
Things that you have to know about Mq are :
*It's the safest of the french island
*if people are a bit cold at firt they will be friendly as soon as they get to know you.
*humidity is around 70%
*you can't live without a car
* north is pretty wet and very green but it rains a lot !
*South is more sunny and dry with very nice beaches but far from cinema and cultural life.
after that choosing an area to live is related to your lifestyle and what you like to do.
Bye

How much is the monthly rent for a room with private bath ?

Is there public transportation for daily shopping (bus, small collective minibus) ?

Can you buy food at open air public markets ?
