Hi, I'm a recently arrived English-speaking South African in Algiers on a 3 month contract. 1) Can anybody advise whether there is a club of some sorts where I can meet and speak to people in English whilst downing a few beers and playing pool? In EgyptAlexandria, they had the Portuguese club for example. 2) I also play rythym guitar and sing for a rock band back home. Anything similar over here? I miss not hearing live music. Any assistance would be welcome.

Hi Keith
I am a South African who is expatriating to Algiers early November, for 2 years. I am finding it very difficult to find any information on what to expect, what the infrastructure etc is like.
I would appreciate it, if we could stay in touch and maybe you can pass on any information you are given.

Hi guys, While we might not have some of the info you've requested here, a couple of us 'expat wife' types have started an info blog on getting settled in Algiers. Like you, we couldn't find much info on the net about what it's like here. The blog is based mainly on our experiences and needs, and not fully comprehensive, but hope it helps you get an idea of what to expect here. (Promise you that it's not all gushy diary stuff either).
Leave a comment at the blog if you have questions.
