Hy folks,
i have a question and here is the only place I might find an answer.
My friend, an american lady of over 60 years old married a algerian guy and is now living in algeria in el biar, she says she has to stay all day locked up in the house because she cannot go out by herself, only with him. so she sits all day at home doing nothing.
They had made a business wich did not succeed in selling used cars coming from the states and now the customs blocked everything at the border and will not let the cars in, this happened 2 years ago, since then she is there and she cannot find a job because it is dangerous...
Is this possible??? We were thinking of going over and taking her home, what do you think...thanks for answering :)

Hi
I am a young South African living in Algiers and although i am not suprised that an Algerian man is keeping his wife hostage in his house, i can assure you it is not very dangerous here at all.
EL Biar where she lives is a good area with many embassies and diplomats and the surrounding areas are very safe also.
If she needs help to get the cars into the country, i could try assist/advise as i work for an international logistics company in Algiers.
Alternatively if you want me to check on her i will be happy too.
Juan

Hy! thanks for your help you are very kind .
I will ask her what is the situation at the moment and if she is still like that i will contact you.
It is not that she is kept hostage, she says it is dangerous for her to go around by herself. her husband has to stay with her all the time, plus he cannot find any job.
Is it a touristc place? with restaurants and shops?
Could you give me some information on the place? Is life expensive there?
Thanks again :)
