Hi, we are planning a move to algiers and are looking for a school for our son. Have info on nice school in bouzeria. Heard that there is a also a school connected to Saudi Arabia. Does anyone know about this school? their fees are significantly lower than the 1st school but I really like this one while my husband wants to check out the second one. Be very grateful for advice, thanks.

Dear Lou1998,

I live in Algiers and my son goes to a private school in Hydra/Paradou. The school itself is maybe not the nicest ones but the results are very good. My son did not know any French or Arab and after not even one year he is one of the best of his class. I know the one in Bouzereia is very nice to see but the results they get are not as good. Well of course everything is heresay, former teachers and parents. The one which is connected to Saudi Arabia I do not know.
In general a good private school is about 10.000 a month (you pay 12 months and inscription fee).
If you need any further help with housing etc. see www.network-algeria.com

Hi Dutch64,

I tried to send you a private message but it didn't work out. I wonder if you can let me have the name and number of the school your son attends. Many thanks

Hi Lou 1998,

It is Ecole Cipele Education
4, Rue Boumegouss - Paradou- Hydra
tel. +213 (0)21481362
Lessons are not in English. They follow the French system and Arabic, this means that they have more homework but it works out well form my son. He is 7 years old. Next year they even get English lessons, which in your case would not be necessary. Fee 100 euro per month. If you need any help or more info just let me know on [email protected]

Hello, There is a Saudi school in Algeria, which does teach English as well as Arabe. Costs about 8000DA per month with full year paid in advance.

I have heard of private schools in Alger, Dley Ibrahim,Cheraga and Zeralda, similarly priced.

I think generally all the schools including the priavte ones are overcorwded so not much on-on time for the kids ... needed for many w/o the language skills.

Person who posted school in Bourzeah, can you give me some info on the school?

Hi All,

We had the same problems trying to find the right school when we moved here 5 years ago. We solved the problem by starting our own school! Our passion to work toward making the school one of the best in the world comes from the fact that our own kids are attending. Here's the website for more info: http://www.hopelanddz.com/6.html

Feel free to contact me for more info.

When we moved here 5 years ago from the US, we checked out Kalimat (then El-Hourouf /EHISA) but found the English level and quality of the teachers was unacceptable (especially considering the price), so moved the children several times from private school to private school and ended up choosing the Saudi School for several years simply because of the class sizes and the campus play area, but the education level is not as rich and is at least a year behind the Algerian/international programs. Finally, we decided to start our own school in Draria where the children follow the Algerian program but maintain their English levels and give them the support they need to be able to take the tests that work best for them. Most families we interviewed wanted the children to be prepared for both the Algerian Bac, and the British or American tests. We really are against an overloaded program, like most private schools here that follow the Algerian and French program simultaneously. So we chose an innovative teaching process instead that provides native English speaker support in their regular courses (which are taught primarily in Arabic), in addition to supplemental English courses. Hi,
We are planning to move to Algeria this summer as we always wanted, but I'm very nervous and very concerned about my kids education. Coming from American schools and not knowing Arabic scares Me,especiallly my daughter who is in4th grade. I don't know how you guys handle those kind of situations. Would you put her in 5th grade next year or wait until she learns Arabic. Can you please share any experience or advice?
By the way my husband is Algerian from Algiers and i'm from a different Arab country.
Thank you

Hi we have many thinks to share :) i will be back with my kids in algiers on this summer. We are not worried about this because when our older son registered in international school in UAE he was really smart and reach a level that we d never imagine. Kids have a lot of capabilities. expose them to our experience is not a punichment but a good thing because they will maintain their creativity, as they ll travel and learn others langage, learn to adapt him for other background learn to leave some friends , but i think the only thing important to worry about, is their affectif toys or things and maintain the contact with their family. thank you. ( sorry for my level in english)

Thank you for sharing with me your experience, may ALLAH bless your son and bless you all. I think you absolutely right about what you said,it''''s not gonna be a bad experience and they are going to learn a lot through the process.Besides I REALLY want my kids to learn Arabic this is huge for me, and I'm willing to do what it takes to achieve that regardless of any other difficulties. By the way your English is good and you don't have to apologize. Again thank you very much for your advice.

Thank you for your encouragements.... My son learnt french before arabic and english and it is true that english is easier then arabic but it is not impossible at all. i noticed two importants means that help my son in this achievement i want to share them. First reading simple and difficult texts, it s paradoxal but when he trried to read difficult text the brain was doing an important effort and when he went to simple text he read easily and got confidence, i also often let beside him many books he liked , after a period reading became easiest. the second thing i noticed improve his speaking is listening the same person or the same program which of course he liked, i am sure you will achieve the best because a mum who work hard can achieve more then anyone because no one know their kids like her then no one can choose the appropriate method like she can do. and when we have the appropriate method we learn in less time. hope allah give strenght and patience to all mums and dads.

Salamu Alaykum Serenity,
I'm very busy those days that i did not get a chance to visit the forum. I love to hear from other moms that are very concerned about their kids education, and it seems like you are a good mom MASHALLAH. I have a lot of books for my kids home and I read for them, they are all in english unfortunately but I do have some Arabic as well that I translate to them when I have time. I don't keep them in their bedroom, you might laugh at this, they all have pictures in them, so I tell them they scare the angels away. You brought a good point, it takes a lot of work to help your children excell in reading and writting or at least make them love reading and that's what the American educational system does at a very early age. By the way you mentioned Dads, my husband is not involved in any of this.Anyway my kids are very excited about living in Algeria but I'm little nervous because I don't have relatives over there except my husband's family and relatives. Again thank you for sharing with me/us your thoughs and experiences especially the language part that worried me before.
JAZAKE ALLAH KHEIR.

Hi Jill, Bouzareah and Bejaia are VERY far away...about a 5-hour drive. To my knowledge, there are no other English schools, and Kalimat is not accredited by anybody. You might consider home schooling. I can give you the name of British homeschooling program that will allow her to finish her middle school program. If you are planning to stay here permanently, I would get her two teachers: one for English, and one for Arabic to have her start an intensive immersion program so that she can start high school in the Algerian program normally. For the 6000 Euros you would pay to send her to Kalimat, you can hire a ship-load of tutors! English schools in Bejaia where you might find tutors include: http://www.bls-formations.com/ (I'm not recommending them, and you should ask for other schools when you get there and make the best choice). Those are just suggestions. :-) Hope it helps!!

Be sure to register her with an accredited school that has a homeschooling or online program, and bring the materials with you. http://www.primaryhomeeducation.co.uk/ (check their links page for online options for older students)

Hi Hopeland,
I intend to move to Algiers this summer with my daughter who is 13, and I am really worried about her schooling, I read your message and it's very helpful, I don't know any school who could take her in, she is in year 8 now and doing so well.
Could you please help me with some advice.
Many thanks.

Hi Leila, can you please tell me what schooling solution you found for your 13 year old daughter. I might be coming in 2017 to Algiers with a 12 year old daughter at the end of her grade 7. Is the only solution to homeschool or put them in the French school? Many thanks for your help

There is a new American school in Ben Aknoun but I don't know the name. You can find it online. I think the prices were very reasonable. This is the first year it opened.

Hi, I'm wanting to move to Algeria with my Algerian husband and children (I'm British not Algerian and a qualified secondary school maths teacher). Can anyone help me with a list of international schools who do good packages for teachers.
