HI. everyone. my boy frend from algeria .and he come back to algeria.and already 11 days im dont have any news from him. him passport expaire 4 years ago and oll this time he live in my country not legal.and also he dont have shtam in airoport in my country.too becouse he come not legal too in my country . when im talk with him sister in algeria ,she not speak english good ,but like im undestand she tell me that my boy frend in the jell in algeria and im need to weit untill he passed the trebunale. I want to ask. In algeria possible if go to the jell if your passport expaire. ?? im really im dont know to whom to ask? im know him 4 years. and may be he really have problem there or may be they just lai to me. im really im dont know what to thing. and if he really in the jell.and how long time he is stay there?

I believe the law here in Algeria is that if you are illegally living out of Algeria when you return you must spend 6 months in jail. It is not because his passport expired but that he was out of the country with no legal papers. This is trying to stop illegal immigration problems. Hope this helps.

I read your message and felt bad for you as you must be worried. As ur bf passport expired 4 years ago what document did he use to travel back to algeria with? They would not let him check in to a flight without a valid passport so that made me think that he might have used someone elses passport to travel with or maybe a forged document, if this is the case and he got caught with this upon his arrival to algeria then thats why he has been arreseted in algeria. He may have been wanted in another EU country and they had a warrent issue here in algeria for his arrest. I know lots of people have returned after being illegal in europe and they have not been arrested for this but lmaybe the law has changed recenlty. They would not arrest someone for having an out of date passport becuase its not a crime. He must have had another passport to leave england??? Do you know any of his friends in ur country that you know are nice people? You could ask them what has happend, ask them to call his family and translate for you. I think they are right you cant have telephone calls in jail here. I hope you hear from him soon inshalla

I agree with Bill. There is no way they would arrest your bf for just an expired passport. I do know that they recently made a new law that if you are out of the country illegally and are caught you will be deported and be given 6 months jail time here in Algeria. I believe this is what must have happened. When he came back into Algeria with no papers they immediately took him to jail probably. As I said in my earlier message, this is to try to control illegal immigration to other countries. If you leave ALgeria and stay in a country without a proper visa, when you return or are caught in another country, you will be sent back here and given 6 months in jail. I am very sorry for your situation. I wish you the best.

Extremely worried about you, may you'll be in trouble for doing this. when i came to algeria and visit all famous places of their, and for just phone number i got many trouble, like there was no passport etc i have, so finally i bought a number from DID Exchange, a virtual did number, that was the only way to get number for algeria,
