Hi, I'm Cindy and it's certainly nice to hear from you.

We are going to be moving to Launda but as of yet we don't have the official date. I don't think it will be very long from now though.

I've done a lot of reading on the internet about Launda and fortunately for me, we are going to replace a couple that has been there for over a year.

As of now, she's doing a list I should say about Launda. I won't tell you that it's something if it's not.

When I first started hearing some of the things that people were telling me and reading on here, I was terrified. And my first thought was that I was going nowhere near there. I have since read more, spoke to more people and then was able to speak to the couple about the place.

And not that I don't trust what my husband has to say about the place, I probably trust another female thats been there..ha. His main interest is getting me to agree to go there and his saying is, it's not as bad as they say.

So, as soon as I get an e mail from my friend, I'll let you know. She's going to tell me in detail about the shops, safety, food, hpising and medical etc. I'll be happy to let you know. There's also a web site on here and I'll get the address for you to look at an article that was written.
Take care and stay in touch..

Hi Rosie,

It's nice to hear from you..

I know what you mean by lack of information. I've had to really dig on the internet to find information that would be helpful to me.

There's plenty enough negative info. Enough to make most of us very unsecure about going there. But I'm beginning to see a couple of positive things.

I think a lot of it depends on how we look at it. That's easier said than done right? ha.

A friend of mine is writing some notes for me. We are actually going there to replace them as they are going back to the states. She's there now in the US and has promised that she would write long letter telling me about the shops, food, housing, etc.

All of our children are gone so I don't know too much about the schools although they were there with there children and they were attending an international school so they do have at least one. I'll e mail her and ask her to let me know.

It's definitely not going to be Baku. And I actually had a tough time adjusting here at first. But now I've been fine with being here.

My oldest daughter gave me some good advice. She said" think of it as a long vacation". It's what Ive tried to do here in Baku..ha..

My husband has been to Launda and he agrees with a lot that has been posted. Lot of dirt, security concerns and things like that. He works for an oil company and it's our understaning that we will be in a compound. Safety wise, that's good. But I have concerns for myself as far as being so confined as I don't do well under those circumstances. So it's definitely going to be a challenge.

Read all the post though because they're pretty much on the track for what we should expect. It definitely won't be South Africa which I wouldn't mind at all..ha.

It is my understanding that it's a very expensive place to live. More so than here in Baku and I thought that this was expensive. But then I'm comparing it to US and so that's not really something to compare it to.

Do keep in touch with me and I'll let you know as soon as I get the information.

You never know, we just might be neighbors.. My husband does know Spanish and I know French so we might not do too bad language wise. It can't be any worse than trying to understand Russian or Azeri. Right?

Take care..

My husband will be in Luanda. You can contact me on here though and let me know how things are going for you. Sorry I didn't write before. It's been crazy here. Hi, my name is Gabriela, I´m Brazilian and I am moving to Luanda with my family (husband and 2 kids - 6 months and 2 years old). My husband is going first and I´m planing to go after the yougest turn 6 moths old - she wasn´t born yet!

I´m a lot concern about housing and school for them. My husband´s company is going to pay for almost everything, so we have liberty to choose any where we wanna live.

I´ve heard about a condominium far from de city center, where are nice houses to live. The guy my husband is going to substitute lives now in a very nice house near the embassies. Does any body know where the best place to live in Angola? Having in mind the terrible trafic and the security.

I appreciate any information about housing, living and havind small children in Luanda.

Best regards,
Gabriela

Hello Gabriella, Hope everything is doing good with you and yr baby.
I didnt receive yr msg. After our first month in Luanda, we are getting use to. Next week kids will start school. Last week we visited the school's facilities. They are very good. It has large cafeteria, large football field, two swimming pools (toddlers and olders), tennis court, playground and the classroom are spacious. The staff were very friendly. So my kids are very eager to start it next week. About health, I havent been in any clinic or hospital. Next week, I m planning to go and find out more about how it can be managed in case of any emergency. Going groceries shopping take most of the day, due to all the traffic and the fact that you cant find everything in one shop. I suggest you, try to bring EVERYTHING you can to make life esier unless you enjoy traffic jams jajajja
Well, hope to help you more. Let me know if you need anything else. Take care. Rocio.

Hello, I currently live in Angola outside of Luanda in a little town called Quibaxe. I have lived here for about a year and a half. I am currently 6 1/2 months pregnant with first child and will go to Namibia next month to await the birth. I did go to a clinic in Luanda for prenatal visits and was pleasantly surprised by the clinic. (Ilha- Segrada Esperanca)
Does anyone know info about visas for infants???
When I return will my baby need his own visa or can he enter with me since I have a work visa??

Thanks.
