Can anyone give us some idea of health care costs in Argentina for people over 65? We don't expect an exact amount, but perhaps a range of possibilities. We are newly retired, have visited Argentina this year, and really loved it. We have been taking Spanish classes. Hope to return soon for a longer visit and probably move there. We have checked online, but some of the medical info is very confusing. Many thanks.

As far as health care costs, you have two options for checking out prices.
The first is you can contact LivinginArgentina.com and they can help you out with information and which company to look for information. Shooting them an email or posting on their group facebook page well get you in touch with them.
Or, on Expat-Blog.com in the Argentina section they have an area where you can receive a health care quote, free of charge. That should help you get an idea of how much it will cost.

Argentina, like many S. American countries offer public health care for residents. But reports of inadequate care are numerous and most individuals who want quality care purchase private health insurance. You can get a general synopsis of what is avail. and how it works from Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_in_Argentina. I would suggest contacting the Consulate General at your closest Argentina Embassy for more information.
If you are wanting priviate health insurance, then feel free to email or call me for an international health insurance quote.

You can also see figures from a 2005 report of average medical care costs at the WHO website, http://apps.who.int/whosis/database/core/core_select_process.cfm?country=arg&indicators=nha.

leedi,
Like the previous posting stated, even though there is national health care here, most people I know who can afford it have some sort of private insurance, and there are even private ambulance services that will bring a doctor to your house for small things (one a friend of mine signed up for was Ecco - http://www.ecco.com.ar/). Most private hospitals offer their own insurance plan. One I've heard that is good in Buenos Aires is Hospital Aleman (http://www.hospitalaleman.com.ar/index.htm) They also accept a lot of foreign insurance plans.
Good luck,
Pete
