" I just moved here and have a large (1800 sq ft) apartment with 3 bedrooms all to myself. . . 1) Wondering if apartment sharing is a common practice in Bs As. 2) Anyone have advice on how/where I can advertise for housemates I''ve done this in various cities around the world -- San Francisco, Paris, but thought someone might have done this in Bs As already. Would appreciate any thoughts. Jim "

" Hi Jim, In answer to your question about apartment sharing, I don''t think that it''s such a big thing here as in various other countries - although you do get people placing ads in the newspapers saying ""room to let"" and such. I would say your best bet would probably be placing a similar ad in the Buenos Aires Herald (if you''d prefer english speaking house mates) or maybe La Nacion/Clarin if you are not married to the idea of sharing with only english speakers. Obviously though, there is a risk here as you never know whether the people are going to turn out trustworthy. I haven''t heard of any agencies that specialize in apartment sharing, but perhaps you could get more information form the many estate agents/realtors situated all over Buenos Aires. Also another thought is that quite a few companies take on students for internships and then usually help them out by arranging accommodation for them. You could maybe advertise with some of the international companies. Hope that you manage to find someone to share as that is one huge apartment that you have all to yourself. Good Luck! Amanda "

" Hi Jim. I''m a student in BA and have been here for only a few months. I have heard of other foreigners sharing apartments. So, it''s doable. You should put a free ad in the other expat sites like http://expatvillage.com and http://www.famconnect.com/baxpat//index.shtml I''m sure you''ll find a roommate. Good luck! Erica "

" Jim, I would suggest you go to yahoogroups.com and subscribe to the BANewcomers list. Lots and lots of expats there who might be able to get you set up. Plus, it''s a fun group of people! Good luck, Sarah "

" Hi I''m Bart, I will be doing some research work in and around BA in May next year. My wife and child will probably follow me. I''m looking for a shared appartment, mainly because it''s more fun being with more people and it will be easier to integrate into life in BA. I have no trouble with only english speaking or only spanish speaking roomaates as long as we connect. Now where do I find such ideal people. Could you perhaps be one? Let me know, Bart. "
