We are seriously considering buying a finca in the Mendoza region. If we do, we will have to get some sort of citizenship (don´t want to have to cross the border every 3 months), pay taxes etc. We have contacted the Argentine Embassy etc in the UK but are struggling to find out what the procedure is for legally buying / owning land & residency. Can anyone help? We are in Argentina at present on holiday & have been advised to contact the Ministry of the Interior - where does one start? Thanks in advance for any help given!

I have lived part time in Buenos Aires for the last 17 years. Buying property is no problem, selling it is a bit more so. if I can answer any specific questions, fire away. Carol

I just bought a property in Buenos Aires, using George Gibbons as my real estate advisor. His # is on www.escapetoargentina.com. There are 3 possible visas for residency: invest $100,000, retirement proviving your monthly income, or by having a business claim that you are necessary to their business. You can bring your household goods, except for color tv's, and you must pay duty on any automobile. George can give you more details.

Looking for opinions and details of money transfer for property in Argentina-specifically in the Bariloche area. I have been told it is not too difficult but I would appreciate some details. The citizens/residents only bank account rule seems a difficulty-any advice???

Carol:
I am checking out Buenos Aires, and would love to be able to ask you some questions, off board.
If I gave you my email address, would you be willing to contact me directly?

For anyone that is thinking about purchasing real estate, I offer a comprehensive consulting and property management service. You can visit my website for details or you can email me at mike@apartmentsba.com
Also, for anyone that used the realtor mentioned above, you might want to note that he has been making a mistake and charging his customers an unncessary 2.5% tax. I met with him on behalf of one of my clients he wanted to charge this tax to. I saved my client $2,400. Jorge claimed to have been charging his clients this tax so if you bought with him in the past, you might want to have a chat with him.
