Dear friend
you need a BIG ADJUSTMENT to understand this country, and yet don't get what is going on!
The tax system so called AFIP is a big piece of crap that you have just to go on with it; just register as the poorest guy as monotributo, pay the minimum. and don't show the rest!!
are you nuts or are you american raised and don't get the culture of this country.
If you don't adjust quickly you'll get ripped of, raped and devastated in no time!
to bring in cash, I sugest you either a casa de cambio tranfer, or bring large traveller cheques from american express( 1000 each) and you can exchange them at amex plaza san martin free of charge to us dollars cash.
Once you live longer at cordoba, you'll discover other goodies of argentina, and argentina only that you wouldn't dream of here in america...
good luck, you'll be a winner in no time!

I just read PIN's reply to a note about taxes in Argentina. For one thing, the US also taxes foreigners on their home country income. However, I'm not a tax expert so I won't go into that. While the system here may be lax, all I want to say is that some of us (a lot of us) are, actually, honest tax-paying citizens in this country. Honesty is not negotiable, wherever you live.
