Household Goods import agent. Recommendations? How to avoid?

We are moving one 40ft container with household goods from Miami to BA, then to San Rafael. All personal items. We will also have one car and one motorcycle registered to my wife and one car registered to myself in another 40ft container. No personal items in that one.

Looking for good recommendation on who to use fo customs clearance, maybe who to avoid. Thinks to look out for.

Should mention we are processing our residency papers.

I lived in BsAs from 2001-2003 and worked with Transpack Argentina http://www.transpack.com.ar/en/index.html as the sponsor of our expat group and some charity projects. The also performed a complicated "over the balcony" move for us when we needed to have some furniture recovered and I can't say enough good things about them.

Ask to speak to Cliff Williamson, the president, and tell him that Roxanne Davis said hello from Qatar.

I used Suddath moving for the U.S. part and Argenmove (http://www.argenmove.com/) for the Argentine part. They were great and took care of our stuff from customs to our doorstep. If you're bringing cars be ready to pay the import tax, which I understand is very steep.

Good luck.

Hello,

My wife and I own a Vineyard in San Rafael and a Condo in Mendoza.

We have made the decision to move to Argentina, San Rafael, which will necessitate a 40' Container with household goods and one SUV.

Any research you can share will be greatly appreciated.

All of the shippers I have contacted leave me with a queasy feeling and the prices are all over the board ranging from USD$5,000 to $9,000. Some say I have to deliver the goods and drive my car into the container and fasten it down. Others say, "No problem, we do everything"

Sincerely,

Tom and Yvonne Phelan
