Greetings I am planning to move to BA. Will spend Jan feb march there--return to Boston and move Sept 0f 2010 Concerns and panic about moving "stuff" there, Visas, language(studied but not good). Will be renting a house with bf to start. Hoping to locate in Palermo or Palermo Hollywood. Any help would be great Jeffrey

Hi Jefrey, I wouldn't take the effort to move a lot of stuff if that's possible. It's not easy to import things here, even if they are yours, although a car could be usefull if you have one. (they are expensive here)

As mentioned moving stuff here can be complicated and expensive. Moving a car here would be the most expensive of all..they will impose a 100% duty on the car. I dont know anyone who brings cars in except diplomats who can bring their stuff in duty free. Personal items are free of duty for one shipment that takes place within 2 years of your arrival. The cost incurred for these items are shipping and moving costs. There are several well know co. that serve expats in this capacity. If you are moving down here for an extended period of time you might want your stuff....Buying a small locally made car is not that expensive but the bureaucracy that you will go through to buy it will kill you. Public transporation works pretty well.
