A New Home in Argentina ?

Hi everyone! I'm an Asian Canadian male, who has spent most of his adult life and has worked only in the US, thus my retirement accounts are also only in the US. I'm in my middle age and considering to move overseas mainly for the financial reason. I used to work as a sub teacher for public schools in California and, looking long-term, my retirement funds are simply too skimpy to allow me to live in North America.

I've been researching lately trying to find an inexpensive destination to move to, with the possibility of long term stay or emigrate to. And an acquaintance mentioned Argentina. I'm interested in Latin culture so I thought why not checking it out. But since money is the main reason I'm considering this option, I'd like to know just how much roughly it will cost to live there.

Below is the cost of living in Buena Aires. Please advise how accurate they are.

I’ve been looking into many other options in South America and it appears to me the cost of living in BA is actually considered quite high, especially the rent, real estate and especially the utilities, if this page information is any good. What do you think?

I'm open to any destination as long as it has what I'm looking for in a "home."

My main concerns are:
1) rent / real estate prices
2) how easy / difficult to get a tourist / immigrant visa?
3) Is it possible for expat to get jobs there since I still need to work. Unless I can afford a piece of real estate and rent out rooms, but I prefer to work.
4) Are they tax / expat friendly?
5) Low crime (I’ll post another inquiry regarding this)
6) Affordable and good quality medical care.

A few other concerns:
(in random order)
Warm weather (80 degree F is the optimum temperature to me, and I'd rather hot than cold, ideally not too humid)
Easy access to beach and mountains,
Has affordable gyms with at least doable equipments,
Clean, with good infrastructure
Reliable, at least not too bad internet / cell phone services
English-friendly is a plus, but not a must
As an Asian from English speaking countries, how well received will I be there?

In terms of job, my Mandarin is quite good (just came back from Taiwan). Will that be an asset?

I know these are a lot of questions / concerns, and these are the ideal. Please feel free to respond to any of them.
Much obliged!

Hola,
Your main concerns:
1. From what I understand, renting an apartment can be a dificult process. Some renters have had to pay 6-12 months' rent in advance.
2. I have lived in BA for over 10 years on a tourist visa. I must leave Arg every 90 days.
3. I .would think that getting a job at a liveable salary would bealmost impossible, even if you spoke fluent Spanish.
4.I don't know about Arg taxes
5.I was once pickpock-
eted on the metro. I've been robbed by utility companies, and retail stores
6.Medical care is generally good and not ex-pensive.

The gay scene is disappointing at best. I haven't been to a bar in years. They tried to start a gay expat group about 4-5 years ago; so much for that idea..

Mandarin? I doubt it, unless the Chinese or Taiwanese Embassies are hiring. As an Asian, I don't tjink you would have any problems.

Beaches - none near BA.
Mountains - "

I never heard of anyone getting a mortgage.

Inflation? Not too bad if you have nice clean US$100.00 bills. The "blue rate? about 9.6 pesosto the dollar vs less than 6 at atms. Xoom online can transfer money fro your U.S. banks account and give you pesos at their office for a probably 8.5 pesos,

Gyms? There is 1 near where I live. It was so bad that I quit. It depends where you live.

Weather? I think that it's
perfect; never too hot or cold. Never snows and usually rains during the night.

Finding a place to live anywhere in the World is extremely difficult. If it meets all of one's criteria, it probably isn't affordable.
Any western European city, Australia, (Cape Town) SouthAfrica .

Adios
