Living in Argentina for a few months

Hello fellows

I'm a single guy in my mid twenties that has an online business which is moving from one country to another.

Argentina is on my list to visit. Can someone please tell me about the cost of living in Argentina? I want to explore the coastal parts of Argentina, as the pictures I have seen were gorgeous.

How much would an apartment for one person cost per month? cost of food per day?

Regards!

Arya,

First of all don't forget that the water you refer to is probably the Rio de Plata and not an ocean. The area for young people is Puerto Madero where an Condo will run US$1,200 - $1,500 monthly and up.

If you look at San Telmo, about a US$8.00 cab ride away, it will be cheaper, and more cultural but also probably riskier regarding crime etc. Be aware than many Argentines demand an Argentine "Guarantee" on any lease, you need an Argentine to co-sign with you unless you pay the entire lease amount up front.

Food and restaurants are no longer cheap in Argentina. When my wife and I first visited Buenos Aires in 2007 a typical meal at a sidewalk cafe was AR 12 pesos and included wine or beer, bread and butter, chicken or beef, a salad and dessert. The same meal now costs AR 60 - 100 pesos. Food at the market is pretty similar to the US where a loaf of bread costs US$4.00 with butter, milk, meat and vegetables costing about the same as the US.

My suggestion is to bring as many Ben Franklins as you can, up to US$10,000 because you can get a 40% spread on the "Blue Market" where you sell you US$100s for AR 1,000 or AR 1,100 pesos while the Argentine Banks only give you AR 8.1 pesos per US Dollar.

I hope this helps.

Hi Arya,

Pinamar, Villa Gessel, Carilo and those coastal towns are beautiful. Although places like Mar del Plata is extremely popular the beaches and water are not nice. Like Tom was saying the water is brown. More south to Puerto Madryn you also have the ocean but the sand is not soft and it is cold. The best beaches are in Brazil :) Pinamar is my favourite coastal town in Argentina and the sunrises are breathtaking.

Living costs in Argentina is sky high at the moment especially accommodation and food. If you have an email address I can forward you the email that we are getting on a weekly basis from our local supermarket. We don`t live in the big city but in a smaller touristy place in Cordoba. Maybe it will give you an idea of what food costs.

Kind regards
Nelieta

Neimi.

Can you be so kind as to send me the weekly Grocery Store prices, I can use it for current prices that I sometimes cite in my Newsletter.

Thanks.

Hi Tom,

Sure. I will email it now. Please keep in mind it is not Carrefour but Cordiez. Prices should be more or less the same :)

Nelieta,

Thanks,

I have found most super-markets have similar pricing except for WalMart. I know, I can hear the "boos" now but Ex-pats don't support WalMart, Argentines do.
