Saint John brings up a good point.

What is your budget?

How many bedrooms and baths do you need?

Any pets?

How long? If you want six months or more unless you rent from Foreigners a typical Argentine will want an "Argentine Guarantor" on your lease. You may also be asked to pay the entire lease up front.

I have used a Mendoza, Argentina Realtor for several year; Leandro Suarez [email protected]

Drop Leandro an email and he might find what you are looking for. Feel free to tell him Tom and Yvonne Phelan from La Vida Buena Vineyards recommended him.

I will be in Buenos Aires Dec 11th for a couple of weeks, and then Mendoza for a couple of weeks. If anyone knows of an expat with apartments or casitas, cabinas, whatever, we are two senior expat couples and are interested in a nice place to stay, maybe a car to rent. Swimming pools and very nice surroundings are OK with us.

Renting a car!!??

I normally can't or won't take the time to discuss a subject where a question has not been raised. However, because you mentioned renting a car I feel compelled to raise several Caveats.

Rental cars are not cheap in BA ir Mendoza and can easily run US$100 a day or more plus mileage.

Rental Car Companies have a habit of using high deductibles, e.g. US$2,500 - US$5,000 and believe me when I say when you return the car it will be inspected with a magnifying glass. Even the finest star (fracture) in the windshield will makes you liable for a new windshield. The real rub is often the star was there when you rented the car but you didn't notice it. The same for a spare tire, missing sun visors etc.

Painful as it may be I strongly encourage you to pay the extra premium for a Deductible that is "ZERO".

Good info Tom.........will note the deductibles...........heck, we might even take the bus

Unfortunately buses don't take you every where and you may wait hours to catch the "next" bus.

For a full day of outings, e.g. visiting numerous Bodegas etc. and especially if you are drinking wine, you might consider hiring a driver for the day. As I recall you can hire a driver and his car for about US$100 a day. If you can pair up with another person or couple then it becomes quite economical.

Buy a through away car it may be cheaper in the long run, you have the car for your trip and sell it when you leave.

I might agree but a throw away car that is dependable enough for road trips will probably cost you US$10,000 or more. True, when you get ready to leave you can sell it but that could take time and the worst thing you don't want to happen is you're flying out and your car is with someone else who will supposedly sell it for you and send you the money. I have witnessed numerous times the departing party almost giving the car away to get rid of it before departure.
