Former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega has been hurt in a prison fall, but one of his doctors says the injury is not serious.

Dr. Eduardo Reyes says relatives of the 81-year-old ex-president reported he had injured his shoulder recently in a fall at the El Renacer prison about 20 miles (30 kilometers) north of Panama City.

He says there were no further problems, though he says such falls can be dangerous for an elderly person with health problems.

Noriega was toppled in 1989 by a U.S. invasion and served a 17-year drug trafficking sentence in the United States. He later was convicted in France of money laundering and was repatriated to Panama in December 2011. He's serving a 60-year sentence for murder, embezzlement and corruption.
