I have noticed that the local wineries are relying more and more on their own grapes to make their wine. Before the local small vineyards produced most of the must for the wineries and now the total produced by the wineries is up to 53%. Looks like they are slowly replacing the small guys like me with five to ten hectares of product. I hope this is not a price squeeze happening.

Mike,
I would agree that many Bodegas prefer to own vineyards to insure a steady supply of grapes that can be produced cheaper than going to the open market and buying them.
Conversely, there are vineyards like my 55-acres that would love to build a Bodega and not have to accept pitiable amounts for my grapes. Bodegas get my grapes in March/April and then I must wait months to learn what price I will receive for the grapes. Maybe in mid July I must accept a series of post-dated checks from the buying Bodega that stretch all the way into the following year. For my 2016 Chardonnay grapes Mumms is paying me almost double over 2015, however Presidente Macri floated the pesos so I am about even.

Mike,
Check this link out, great article about where San Rafael ranks with wine consumers. Pretty awesome.
