" I am a US citizen, physician working in the pharmaceutical industry with a wide range of experience. Also, lucky enough to be married to an Australian. We are planning to move to Victoria to raise our young children amongst lots of extended family. Been to Australia many times and look forward to the move. Sydney has more pharma companies, but we prefer Melbourne as it''s closer to my wife''s family. Any advice about finding a job, companies, recruiters, etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much. "

" yes, lucky you. my wife worked there last year as a teacher in a small quaint coastal town an hour south of melbourne. great place. we miss it. in fact so much that we still subscribe to ""the age,"" melbourne''s excellent newspaper. sat/sun issues only but they keep us informed about the local and national things there. sat paper is great for employment queries. check them out online at theage.com.au i think they have classifieds online. i''ve also lived in sydney in a former life and can''t really say one city is better than the other. i liked the sydney weather more, but liked the melbourne lifestyle more. both great places. " I''m from Melbourne but have lived in the US 8 years. You''ll enjoy living there. The Age is a good source but a lot of the professional positions come out in The Australian, the national paper, especially the Saturday issue. Professional institutions may be good as well e.g. through the CSIRO, the national scientific research organization, or through one of the major research institutes such as Walter and Eliza Hall. I''d also check the major pharma companies, both US and European and see which have branches in that state. "

" Try a place called Albury-Wodonga , there are 2 cities seperated by the Murray River ( one of Australia''s largest and it also acts as the Border between New South Whales ahd Victoria - Albury is in NSW and Wodonga is in VIC.).It is 1.5 Hrs to the snow and 3 hours to the coast , you are 3 hrs from Melboure and 7 from Sydney and still isn''t far enought away. The Climate is hot when hot and cold when cold but not as cold as it can get eles where , I have just moved here after 2 yrs in Thailand and it is like Paradise ( Lived in Bathurst , NSW before that ), If you have kids live in Wodonga or if you are the Clubbing type live in Albury but you will pay more for a house there. As for employment try Uncle Bens of Australia UBA is part of the Mars Corp and at this particular site they produce Wet Petfood) - Speak with Helen Houvenga - Personal and recruitment or try Uncle Toby''s another big employer they make breakfast cereal.UBA will be your best bet with your qualifications . Good luck - Keep me posted. "

" Scott, you''ve certainly got me thinking. I have not considered a transition into another industry, but your advice provides another path toward using the skills I have developed, which is what matters most. I will try to locate the Web site for Uncle Bens/Mars & Uncle Toby''s Australia. Can you provide the Web address for UBA or Uncle Toby''s? I am certainly familiar with some of the products these companies produce from my visits to Australia. Alternatively, may I reply directly to you by your email address for further information? My wife is very familiar with Albury-Wodonga and agrees it would be a lovely place to settle. Thanks again for your advice. "
