I am from an international moving company called Australian Vanlines. I am a member of this website & I noticed you needed some advice.
Manly, QLD is a beautiful suburb in Queensland. I suggest you take a look at our helpful links page at
www.vanlines.com.au & check out maps of the area & view real estate guides with maps of the local area.

I hope I have been of assistance. You may contact me at sasha@vanlines.com.au should you require further assistance.

Kind Regards
Sasha Vallaydam

G'Day Scronty,

I live and work in Brisbane CBD, let me know any info you need to make things easier.

Manly? nice, but a bit far if you are working in the CBD, take another look. Rent is cheap still in Brisbane, you can rent a house walking distance (5- 10 minutes) for as little as $170 - $350 Aus depending on what you want. Most of the suburbs within the 5 kms range is great, especially if they have train close by. Best places to live and work in the CBD is (with a family that is) : Toowong, Auchenflower, Milton, Spring Hill, and on top of the list if you want great views is Kangaroo point on the other side of the river (just take the ferry accross).

Caio,

hi
we emigrated to Brisbane just over 2 years ago and we love it. It's not too busy and amazingly after rush hour at just 9:15am, you can drive straight through the city and out the other side with little holdup. It's alive in the city on weekends and there's lots to do for sure. If you want to live in Manly you probably want to live near the water. Remember this will probably give you a small block like 1/5th acre and I know friends who wanted waterfront , but after finding they could get a larger property on a couple of acres for the same money, totally changed their minds! We certainly are biased towards living with lots of space and mountain views! yet still be only 30mins from the city here in Samford. I've put lots of info like this at http://emigrate.hotshopping.com.au
Tim.

Hi there,

We moved to Queensland September 2001 and moved to sydney a few months after for occupational reasons. We realise now how much we love Brisbane and are moving back in August after a brief visit home to England for a few weeks. The Gap & Ashgrove are lovely suburbs approx 7km from the CBD and are very green plus being about 10 mins drive from the city. Bisbane is the kind of city where you are only a short distance from everything. We can whole hartedly say moving to Sydney was a mistake.
Keep us informed?

Thanks everyone for your replies.

We were in Brisbane last year for a visit but of course that is so different from living in the area so info from people living in the area is so helpful.

We have decided to keep our options open and have a look at all the areas mentioned here. Its good that everyone seems to love living there so much, we can't wait to get out there (if we ever get the elusive PR Visa before we go mad with impatience!)
Thanx for all comments , and to Tim for addres with loads of useful info.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Simorgan!

Forgot I was going to ask, are you currently in Sydney or back in England?

It is really great to hear that you prefer Brisbane to Sydney as Sydney was our 1st choice but then we decided on Brisbane area, mainly cos of property prices and work.

Cheers Steve

Hi Steve,

I was a bit vague, but yes we are still in Sydney for another long 6 weeks. We move to Brisbane on June 6th.
I can wholeheartedly say that Sydney is just what you're leaving behind in England. We've found it very brash, over populated and very...very expensive. Petrol here is 20-25 cents more than Brisbane. Our neighbour has bought a 2 bed flat and it cost her $320,000. We are looking at houses in the Gap or Ashgrove in Brisbane and they start at $170,000 for a 3 bed house.
If you want to chat about anything, let me know & I'll let you have my e-mail address.

Regards,

Simon

Hello Tim. I am moving to about an hour north of Brisbane hopefully by Sept. this year. I have bought 1.5 acres near Maroochydore to build on. I am seeking large building material suppliers in and around Brisbane and am having difficulty. I tried accessing the site you listed (http://emigrate.hotshopping.com.au) but was unsuccessful in locating it. Is the site as I have listed it? Thanks for any help.
