My husband and i with our 2 children aged 9 and 11 are hoping to move to QLD next year and would be interested to hear from any other Brits who have made the move and can share in their trials, or from citizens with any advice. Thanks

Hi Bev,
my husband and I moved to Brisbane 2 years ago from sunny Manchester! and we are loving every minute of it. We are expecting our first child in June and cannot think of a better place to bring up children. We decided to live on the Northside of Brisbane, about 30 minutes north of the city in a place called Murrumba Downs. It is very handy for the Sunshine Coast (north) and only just over an hour to the Gold Coast....and the property prices very reasonable, especially with the exchange rate. Can't believe the difference in the standard of living over here compared to what we lived in in Stockport!
Hope I've reassured you. When are you arriving? Please write back with any other queries you may have.
Good luck,
Kati and Graham

Hi Yes we emigrated to Brisbane from Epsom,Surrey just over 2 years ago. We are in Samford downs, northwest of Brisbane, 30 mins from the city and we love it and couldn't believe the mountain views and we got used to the hot weather really quickly! Of course salaries here aren't as good as in Sydney but cost of living is less. If you have done well on selling your house in England, it goes a long long way here in Brisbane. I've put a load of info up at http://emigrate.hotshopping.com.au if you'd like a look. Cheers Tim

Hi Bev,
We moved to Queensland September 2001 and after months of looking for work in IT (my occupation) we moved to Sydney (mistake). My wife is a nurse and has had no problems getting jobs anywhere....she's even had interviews and job offers over the phone. Have to say it's very hard work if you have a couple of blunders when you arrive here, and it makes homesickness more prevalent. We were considering packing in and returning home but have decided to move to Brisbane in August and start again ,as Sydney is like any city in any country and that's part of why we left England. We know Brisbane really well and have loads of friends, some ex-pats so really can't wait to get there. Who was the main applicant for your visa? Just ask if there's anything we can help you with

Hi Katie I am hoping to move to Brisbane to live with my partner Dave (an Aussie) in the next couple of months and am just ploughing through the de facto spouse visa forms. Any contact with anyone who actually successfully made it over the pond and can remind me of how amazing Brisbane is would be so welcome! Especially as we are both from the rainy NW of England originally (Im a Blackburn lass). Hope to hear from you. christine
