Hi all

We have taken the plunge and have decided to move to Oz. My partner has just been offered a job based in Ernest, Gold Coast and I need to start looking for areas to live in near to his work.

We have a 5 year old boy and a 16 week old girl so good schools are important also.

Can't believe its happening, not looking forwards to leaving my mum and family, hey ho, its all for the better, I hope!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks xx :o)

Hi!
I live in Melbourne but was last year living in Brisbane(so I know Gold Coast pretty well too). I would suggest the following areas. Robina(on the canals) and Runaway Bay(also on the canals). They are both influential areas, quite pricey, but very very nice. Living on the canals is great...a lot of houses have pools that overlook the water. However you do not swim in the canals as there are sharks in them(but don't worry they have fences).

If I can help anymore please let me know. (alliegordon60@hotmail.com)Also you may want to have a look at the following site. www.realestate.com.au
and also www.domain.com.au they both offer sales and rental properties and I think one of them also offers you the chance to profile the suburb in terms of schools available, parks, shops, population and medium rental etc...

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Allie

Hi Sonia,
Did you get your visa already? Just last month you were wondering who could help you with it?
We are also hoping to go to Queensland and wondering how getting a job could help the process, it would be nice if you could share your experience so far.
For your info on suburbs, schools,etc... check out http://www.where2live.info, really brilliant, get the book or even email them they are really nice helpful people.
You can also check out http://www.ljhooker.com.au for properties, they have lots of pictures for each house, it gives a good idea of what's really on offer.
Best of luck with your move

Check out Casuarina. It's a paradise little place not far from Gold Coast, ideal for family and kids. Lots of youngish turned-on families and business people - casual as you can find.

Ernest I think is out from the beaches, western Gold Coast areas. Plenty of private schools or public schools, shopping centres etc. A lovely place to live but very expensive, be warned.
