hi we want to cross the big pond, we failed the points test due to our occupations not being a "trade". However my wife now has had interest from a couple of companies via sponsorship, she is a regional manager for a recruitment co. I own my own co and was formerly a manager for the equivelent of Bunnings DIY. We ideally want to relocate to Perth where we have family, has anyone done this? If she is sponsored what does that entail? Will I be able to work freely? The more assistance the better!!!!!!!!!!! .....wait for your welcome advise and assistance!

Hi Ambrose,

I think you should discuss your situation with a qualified migration agent who can assess your ability to migrate. There are many competent professionals out there, just do a Google search for "migration agent Australia".

If your wife is being recruited for sponsorship, she will most likely get the subclass 457 long-stay business visa which is good for up to 4 years. She will only be able to work for that one employer. Since the entire family is included on the visa application, you will have work rights too. Go to the DIMIA site and read Booklet 11.

Cheers.

a 457 is not a good option if you want to change employers. You will be tied to that employer for the duration of your stay.

Might be worth having another look at skilled visas. If your interested email me an I can do an assessment for you. Often offshore agents are not the best. Better to deal with a good migration agent or solicitor in Australia.
