A big difference! Have a loot at http://www.westnet.com.au/internet/broadband/ - highly recommend them, for ADSL broadband (I have the highest speed, with a massive download limit 80Gb and they do a house phone plan too http://www.westnet.com.au/phone/home-phone-services/home-phone.aspx . Broadband connection allows you to use your phone at any time, while connected to the internet - you are only charged for call time, not internet time. Check very carefully, that the property you wish to live in, has ADSL availability - sounds silly, but get it in writing, as I nearly brought a very expensive house, only to 'accidentally' find out, it was 100m outside of the ADSL zone. Telstra is our largest telephone provider (home & mobile). View all of their plans here: www.telstra.com.au) - do not take up their internet, useless and unreliable. Others include: virgin mobile, Vodafone, Optus. Shop around, as many now offer a larger rental per month (approx $89.00), with no additional call charges - read the fine print on all of them. Cap plan on house and mobiles, means you pay for example $49.00 per mronth and you can make up to $300 worth of calls - all the sites have this information for you. Cable TV = http://www.foxtel.com.au/ for all info.
I have ADSL @ $159 per month (not everyone needs this size/speed), never make calls on the house phone, I use a mobile only, on a $79.00 cap ($500 of calls per phone account/month) and do not have cable TV. Hope this helps. Sonita
