" Hello, First of all I want to introduce myself. My name is Fred Schut and I work for the Dutch broadcasting company BNN. In February we¹ll broadcast a new travel programme. We¹ve seen enough of trendy and nice places in the world. Because of that we¹re looking for country¹s / regions or city¹s wich are not really attractive for tourists. We want to show how it is to live in these areas and to make fun there. We want to tell the positive, touristic, stories but also the other side. My question to you is: does anybody has a good idea?. Please let me know! Fred Schut BNN "

" Fred, Austria is filled with great places to focus on. Voralberg is a area not to miss. We have now been here 1.5 years and have yet to run out of fresh ideas. The region is filled with Gondolas which will take you to the tops of mountains where you can hike or just sit at a guest house and drink a coffee or Beer. One in particular is Berggasthaus Staubern www.staubern.ch It is actually in Switzerland but just over the Rheine and also in close proximity to Liechtenstein and Lake Constance (traditional tourist stops). This is a great place to hike as it is very high with incredible views. You can hike along the peak to other guest houses or hike below to a lake and another guest house. Two other areas are Bregenzerwald and Montafon in Voralberg. There are incredible views there, skiing in the winter and summer bobsleds in the summer (Latterns and Bezau). As for interesting towns, don''t miss Feldkirch. The town dates back to 400 BC. It is a great Medieval town with a castle, towers and remains of the original gates and walls. The castle has a restaurant famous for giant Schnitzels and there is also a good museum there. The town still has their market in the town square on Tuesdays and Saturday the same as they have for probably 1000 years. Napolean fought (and lost) one of his major battles there. There is also a wild park, which has all kinds of wild deer and other wildlife. Hope this is of some help. "

The Chamonix valley is also fantastic. Obviously Chamonix is a major resort but away from the resorts you have lovely villages and towns with the most fantastic views imaginable ( mountains nearly 5000m high etc.) and no tourists, where real people live, from mountain peasants to CEOs who commute to Geneva.
If you would like I can put you in touch with my aunt who is renovating a beautiful farmhouse, as I'm sure she would be more than happy to participate in your programme.
