We will be moving to Graz soon and would appreciate any information about international school. Our children are 7 and 9. Do you know an international school there?

For 7 and 9 year olds there is just the BIPS, Bilingual Primary School. They teach 2 or 3 subjects in English. Then starting with 5th grade there is the GIPS, a Gymnasium which teaches in English. The third year they start with French. They teach everything in a foreign language except German and History so I'm told.

Our family is considering moving to Graz for a 2 yr assignment. We have two children, ages 7 and 8, and will enroll them in a bilingual school.

Is BIPS the only option for a primary bilingual school in graz?

We would appreciate any feedback on your experiences with BIPS and the quality of the education they provide.

Thanks very much.

My family is to move from the UK to Graz in December 2008. We have children aged 4 and 7.

Did you or anyone else out there have a good experience with schooling in Graz?

I would greatly appreciate any advice?

Hello
I moved with my husband and 2 children from UK to Graz last year. I am a member of the IWA, which is an English-speaking women's group. Perhaps this is the sort of thing you are looking for? If you google IWA Graz, it will come up with the details.
Kind regards
Rachel

Hello!
I have a 7 year old daughter and we are from Portland Oregon. She goes to school in a small town near Graz. There is an international school here but they do not start until 10 years old. It is called Gibs. You can check it out on the web. I know a little about Graz and the people here etc.. If you have questions or would like to speak English when you get here I would be happy to help with what I can. Please write back if you would like.

Hi, please can you tell me your experience of schools in Graz, my son is 5 yrs old and we maybe moving from uk. Can you tell me if the education is better than the UK. Our main concern is the communication issues our son will have or are the schools full English speaking?
Please advise on your experiences.

Thanks
Iram

Hi there,
Children don't start school until they are 6 or 7, they go to kindergarten. Our son has been in kindergarten for 18 months and speaks excellent German and is very ready for school. Our almost 9 year old started at school in year 1 and also speaks/writes/reads excellent German. Neither of them spoke a word of German 18 mths ago when we arrived. Don't worry about communication! There are no English-speaking schools, only one in which each class has 7 hours of English teaching per week. We are impressed with the education system. It is very different from England. We are all extremely happy here and would not want to return to England - the boys too.
Please contact us again if you need any more information.
Regards
Rachel

Hi

We are moving to Schladming next March (2011) we have a 4 year old who will be 5 in March. He is in reception at the moment. I'm really worried about sending him to Kindergarten, not because of the language as I'd love him to be bilingual but because I am worried that he will lose all the ability to do things in English, like reading and writing which he has only just begun to learn and is really enjoying. I've also heard from a friend that if the children's German is not good enough then they will get kept back a year so I'm worried that he won't be able to start school til he's 7 which I think will not be a good thing for him as he's a bright kid. Can anyone tell me if they have been in a similar situation and what the kindergartens are like and how their children are getting on?
Thanks
Amanda
