Hi All

I just wanted to introduce myself - Myself and hubby are wanting to move to Austria - both are UK citizens. We married in Zell - Am - See in 2004 and our dream is to settle there to bring up our future family.

We want to buy and run a chalet as we are both passionate about snow sports and mountain biking.

But as we are new to this moving abroad lark, we are so unsure of what to do - is it easy to gain residence in Europe as an EU citizen - do we need any visas or permits etc..

Any advice will be gratefully recieved.

Thanks Ski :)

hi

i believe an EU citizen dont need any visa to live in any country within the EU. It's a fact. You can move around in EU freely, otherwise please check with your embassy.

Great plans in Austria!! Keep it up! i'll be there soon in April.

Hi Ski,
My husband and I moved to Austria permanently over 2 years ago, although we've had our apartment here for 5 years. We moved to a ski resort as well and both love it here. We're about an hour from Zell. Moving yourselves over here is fairly easy. As the other poster noted, EU citizens are free to move and live wherever they like within the EU. You might want to check on www.virtualvienna.net to see if there is anyone else out here who has set up a chalet business and could therefore offer you valuable advice. Otherwise feel free to pm me at sian.delaney@hotmail.co.uk if you need any other help. Best of luck with your plans.

Hi,

I'm from India and working in Dubai as an HR professional. I know its gonna be doubly difficult for us as expats to get to find a job in Vienna. My wife worked for a leading airline for 2 Years. Taken a break for motherhood. We basically want to experience living in Austria. We can experiment with staying around the world now when we are young than regret later. I want to know if it is a good idea moving and what are the pro's and cons. Can someone pls advise?

hi. you guys sound the samr as us.we got married in hinterthal near saalfelden in 2006 and fell in love with austria, and like you are planning to move out there and open up a guest house in ski resort.it just all depends on money.you need a 40% deposit to buy a place ,30% min but the bank will then want to see how you can afford it,then add on 10% in buying costs, plus enough money to make any alterations to the place and to see you through first year while you build up business and make mortgage payments, and generally live day to day.if you can do all that then there is nothing that can stop you you are a eu citizen. just go for it,our house is up for sale now, as soon as it sells were off...
