5 guys in mid-twenties relocating to Bahamas

Hello fellow expats (or prospective expats),

On Tuesday, my friends and I are flying to Nassau, and will set up camp in a hotel for a week. In this time, we will have to figure out some issues.

1. Banking -
What banks are recommended?

What is required in order for an American to open up an account?

2. Neighborhood
We will not have a car, so:

Where can we find a safe 5-6 bedroom home or two 2-3 bedroom homes near each other?

What areas offer proximity (walking distance) to food, stores, beach at a decently-priced rent? ($2,000-4,000 range)

What areas have high population of expats? It would be nice to know we could easily meet other American/European expats.

Who can speak for Freeport or Port Lucaya? Is it worth it to check out these areas for less touristy environment?

I live in Freeport. What are you going to be doing to support yourselves while you are here? Port Lucaya is the Tourist Center for Freeport, but there are lots of condo units here that are very nice. If you are looking for convenience, everything is pretty easy to get to here without a car. The public bus is easy to navigate and the taxi drivers are nice. Lots of nice neighborhoods here. It depends on what you are interested in doing which one is best for you. Any specific questions, write back and I will do my best to help you out.
