Buy a decent used car. You really cannot get out and see Nassau without one. Good deals on many used car lots here for Japanese imports which are used and in great condition!

Don't be intimidated to mingle - I have attended every event I can afford and people have been quite welcoming. Locals and expats! You need to be open to try new things and new places.

Understand the tax laws in your country of origin before you move so you can maximize your living experience in the Bahamas. For example, as a US Citizen, it is important to spend 330 days each year OUTSIDE of the USA in order to save on taxes to Uncle Sam. Most people don't realize that but if you can accomplish this - the tax savings is SIGNIFICANT!! Read and learn before you move.

Talk with EVERYONE. The best information I have received is from casual conversations with people who live and work here. From where to shop in bulk, and how to get water delivered to my apartment, who does dry cleaning, where to buy renters insurance. All these small conversations have proven so helpful. The hair salon is a great place to get the scoop! Starbucks is also a great hangout.
