I'm looking to bring my car into Nassau by shipping it through Miami. Fortunately, it is a hybrid so lower duty fees apply. At one point, I thought I read something about being able to temporarily import a personal vehicle and bypassing paying the duty, but I seem to have hit a brick wall when asking Customs about this. Does this possibility even exist? Also, I wanted to know if anyone would recommend a shipping company or have any other words of advice?

Persons such as contractors, persons doing special projects or group conventions, salesmen or amusement park operators can apply for the importation of temporary goods without full duty payment.

I don't know whether this is still the case, but you used to be able to apply for temporary importation of a vehicle (marine or motor) and bypass the duties. However, if it is still here with you after 2 years, you will be required to pay the duties. If you are coming in with the US Embassy, they would be able to provide more information.
Please note as well that you cannot bring in a vehicle over 5 years old.
