Hi, I would like to please receive some answers to my questions form you people that already lived in Nassau. My husband is receiving a job offer there and I need to know some hints so he could take the best decision or negotiation.
We are family of a 14 years old, 3 years old and a newborn.
1. The best and secure area to live is in Sandyport? in terms of facilities and secureness?
2.what would be the price range for a rental of 4 or 3 bedrooms and 3 baths?
3.It´s easy to find rentals pet friendly?
4.would you recomend The Meridian School?, The Windsor Preparatory School?
5.What would be grocery expenses for a family of 5?
6. Electricity price?
7.Whats the best way and less expensive to have a car there?
8. Good pediatricians available?
9.To get our dog to Nassau is to delayed after the dog gets to the airport, what are the asking items for this?
10.Is there a good soccer academy for a 14 year old?
11.An idea of the costs of medical insurance and car insurance.
12. It is to bad the hurricane time?

Thanks a lot for your responses.

Hi

1. Sandyport is a good safe secure place. Very nice but quite expensive. Its a community with pools, beaches, tennis courts etc. There are other places maybe not just as nice but secure and with good facilities at Cable Beach, parts of the West etc.

2. 3/4 bed property in Sandyport will be around $4000 upto $8000. I can give you details of some agents who can send you details - also there are some websites to look at - when I get some time I'll send you links. They generally advertise a little more than they expect and so you can negotiate a lower price. They normally expect a 12 month lease and always insist on getting paid 1st months rent + last months rent+ 1 month security deposit. So you will need three-months money up front. What I did was to rent a place for 3 months first to see where I liked before deciding on the place/ getting a best deal.

3.No idea about pets, but agent will find one for you (I miss my dog!!).

4. No real idea about schools except education standard here is pretty low. My children have remained in the UK (where are you from?) Private schools are a must - I think its around $12,000 per annum.

5. Cannot tell you what your expenses will be but Bahamas is very expensive. e.g milk is $4.50 for half gallon. Bread is $5 a loaf.

6. Electricity is expensive, esp if you have air con on all the time - I pay $200 a month (2 beds, single man, out all day). Look for a property with zonal air con (central air con means you cool the whole house)

7.Importing a car is probably cheaper but getting parts for repairs is difficult so probably best to buy here. Also speed limit is 25mph and 45 mph on highways. But nobody indicates so get lots of prangs and the salty air means your car starts rusting faster.

8. Decent doctors are available but private. You need medical insurance unless you are happy to pay plenty.

9. cant help you about the dog, sorry.

10. There is a soccer academy not sure how good. Soccer is not played extensively here. Maybe something to ask the school.

11. I'll send you some links when I have more time. I have family at the moment, but they leave on 4th Feb after which I will have plenty free time.

12. Hurricane does not normally hit Nassau.

any more questions please ask.
