Generally the most convenient area is Cable Beach. Also Sandyport but that tends to be a bit more expensive. Places like Paradise Island is difficult to get off during peak hours due to traffic. You should be able to get plenty apartments in that price range.

Best option is to contact an agent. I have used Marilyn Ayerherst at Marilyn@bahamaislandsrealty.com tel 1-242-4248707 or 1-242-3641422 or 1-321-2560426

I have used her twice now to find rentals and she has been more than helpful.

There is also Gary who has been very helpful also 1-242-4271230 - I dont have an email for him.

Having recently looked at properties, Following are some contacts: Cable Beach Manor 1-242-3277785 they always have several properties ranging from $2000 (large 2 bed oceanfront with balcony) to $1100 (poolside studio) and others in between. I didnt like the parking area which was off a public beach access and felt it wasnt secure enough.

There is also Island Living realty which has lots, look for their website. Chertsey is also on cable beach but a little bit older - nice pool and views.

By the way you will need to pay three months rental in advance (first months, last months and a security deposit). Just so that you are aware - it was a shock to me but my employer gave me an advance.

I would advise you to look at the properties before signing any lease. So find some temp accomodation here first.

I am moving into my new apartment on 11th Feb and have a spare bedroom, so if youre desperate, you could always rent that for a week or so to give you a chance to find a more long-term rental.

Really appreciate all the information provided rahmank. This has helped a lot with refining my decisions. Might take a look at one of the Realtors suggested though I was not sure if that was a beneficial route. Cheers on the room offer I'll keep it in mind.

Glad to help. Not sure what you mean by 'beneficial route'. I have no interest in any of the realtors I recommended and dont benefit at all. Also they dont cost you anything, they get a commission from the landlord (although you could argue that you might get a better deal directly with the landlord).

There are lots of properties advertised in the Tribune classifieds but its difficult to find a decent place if you are abroad. There were also some really grim places I saw before I picked the current place, so you really need to see them. You generally have to sign a one-year lease, but I negotiated a three-month lease to check out the place first before committing.

There was one place advertised by the owner, Joy. That was a fabulous place, two-bed, fully furnished in a really nice setting close to shops, swimming pool, five mins from beach for $2400 but reduced to $2200 when I said it was out of my budget. I feel she would have taken $2000. But I have lost the tel no. I will be passing by there next week and will post her no. That was my first choice until I viewed the place that I eventually picked (the private beach decided it for me)

Hey rahmank, been pretty busy...wasn't sure on how the realtor influenced rent but thanks for answering the question. Happy if you passed on any other rentals you come across but looking at a few now.
