Hi

We are moving to Nassau in July from Ireland. I just want if anybody has experience on postage items. I intend to post two parcels of 20kg each to Nassau before my arrival with used clothes & other stuff. How customs will treat it ? Thx

Sending things by mail may be a problem. I had a friend send me a Christmas card and it didn't arrive until the end of May! You may be better using a courier like DHL or shipping by air. I used a local moving company to help me with goods I shipped from Canada and they cleared everything and delivered it to our condo. I would definitely look at options for sending things over. You may also want to look at including extra baggage when you fly over and just paying the extra charges - sometimes its cheaper than the courier or alternatives. I came with two suitcases, three carry ons and a box. I paid about $100 for the extras which was probably much better than other options.

At 20kg each, you are best to pay for extra luggage and bring them in with you as personal luggage. If you bring them in with you, it likely will be no issue. If you ship them separately, you may be charged duties (up to 45%) PLUS VAT 7.5% on your estimated value. If you ship separately, you will need to "manifest" what is in your shipments. 20kg should be acceptable as non-over size/weight luggage, and likley much less expensive than shipping.

You can use postal services, but be aware that it takes time. Sometimes months.
I did it some years ago, also from Europe. Welding wire (80 kg) arrived.
My cigars are still missed.
Now I use a courier service like "arising". They have a drop off address in Fort Lauderdale Fl, and deliver to their stores in Freeport and Nassau. Also good to drop off letters that they post for you in the US in a couple of days.
They usually deliver within a week after drop off and can clear your goods, even the bonded ones.

Thank you guys ! Can someone elaborate if we will arrive at Nassau airport with 6 bags with us how the customs authorities will tackle it ? Also out baby will be around 4 months by then she is used to Aptamil milk which I don't think is available there. How easy is the availability of baby milk there + other accessories and how expensive are these ?
