Good Afternoon, All!

I recently relocated to Grand Bahamas Island to stay for a minimum of 4 months with the hope of making it home permanently.

I located a real estate agency online prior to arriving. I figure this was the safest route. I also have a dog.

They were professional and after a 8 week search, they located a property. A lease was drafted and monies were wired to the real estate agency to secure the property.

Much to our dismay, the property fell far short of photos. Ultimately, the agent revealed she had not viewed the property.

The actual landlord (70 or old eccentric) had not updated the property in at least 10 yrs, security next to none and several hazardous electrical and mold issues existed.

We tried to work with the landlord for the first week until we realized it was futile. I contacted my real estate agent who apologized profusely and said i would receive a full refund minus the first month.

She has located a new rental and I am grateful. But I have received no refundvascof yet because the owner has gone to another island and does not seem to be willing to return my monies.

I paid the real estate agency in good faith not the landlord. Shouldn't they be responsible for refunding my moneynand going after the landlord?

This has been a really bad experience. ...

You better had come here first and explain your wishes. Many better opportunities are here, considering that many people here are long time residents.
Do you have something now and if not, what are your expectations?
My guess is that the first month is with the real estate company, be it complete or partially.
On the other hand I had that problem also once but did my homework in a different way.
If you had visited some properties, this wouldn't have happened.

I think those monies should come from your RE, giving them more monies and/or entering into another contract w/o settling that first takes away your leverage.
