I know that many 'locals' purchase items online and have them shipped to the Island. Does anyone have tips for what to buy online vs. buy locally? Which websites provide the best prices for household goods/furniture? Which shipper/customs broker provides the best rates? Any other tips?

Check with customs - there are new regulations with regards to small packages coming in by boat or air. I believe that you now MUST use a broker, and that any incorrect information on the shipping manifest COULD result in a "fine" and a paper processing charge. I believe the processing charge is $25, and the fine equal to 25% of the price of the item. All these changes will result in increased prices to have things shipped in, so you will really need to research the costs.

I order alot of stuff and have it shipped with www.IslandBargains.com. The shipping costs include clearing. You just send the receipt to them via email and they ship to the island weekly. They ship anything.
