Can I find a job before getting married and moving?

I am moving from the US to the Bahamas to be with my fiancé (he is a Bahamian citizen) in about 4 months. We will get married as soon as I get there. Is it possible for me to be able to start looking for work before moving and getting married?

Thank you for your help!

You can certainly start looking, but you cannot work until you have either a work permit or a spousal permit, neither of which come quickly. Of course, if you have special skills which would qualify you for a work permit, then you could proceed that way first. To proceed this way, you would need to find a potential employer, who would then need to apply for Labour Certification (ie. no one eligible to work in the Bahamas is qualified and interested in the job). Then, and only then, would they be able to start the work permit process.

What type of job would you be looking for?

Hi Breija,

Thanks for your reply! Currently I work in the area of procurement for a shipping line. I negotiate contracts and rates agreements with different vendors that give services to the Line. It would definitely be ideal if I could continue in this line of work but I am open to other options.
