Downtown Nassau

I have a trip planned for a week on Paradise Island, Bahamas. Haven't been there in about 10 yrs. The downtown area...nice shopping area...how about the crime there ?
Where are the higher crime areas ?

Also...what hotels in Nassau have some good shows...singing, magic, etc. ? I've searched -via- the net and have come up pretty empty.

Just use normal caution and common sense. Deal with resort employees ONLY- avoid venturing out at night unaccompanied. Crime is not bad- but it does exist- as in anywhere.

In terms of shows- Atlantis always has "some entertainment".... But I am sure there is more; we are just not yet living there until first of the year. But we have been there 8 times in the past 6 months.

Have a great time! Hope others can provide a little more for you.

Downtown Nassau is safe during the day but avoid walking anywhere off the resort at night. Shopping downtown is mostly jewelry stores, souvenir shops and the straw market.

There is very little for live entertainment other than at Atlantis.

The areas with the highest crime are the east side of Nassau (Fox Hill area) and the area around Kemp Road.

Hi VATlady any update on BahaMar? Looks like its back underway. Rumors are circulating but nobody seems to know the truth. We saw a newspaper article that was very vague in terms of timeline or who the players are that invested in the project.

I was told, while in Nassau...from a Realtor...Bahamar is opening next summer...all the "immnigration problems", etc. have been taken care of. the Chinese co.(owner) paid a huge fine to make the "problems go away. It'll be great for the Cable beach area, cabbies & more employement for the locals.
