Hi all, I have been offered a 6 month contract job in Nassau, Bahamas and I am trying to figure out what's fair in terms of wages. I am a single person that is 30 to 35 years of age. I am likely going to want to rent something that is furnished and relatively central as I will be working not far from the airport. I am wondering for a middle class person, how much it would cost me for rent, food, transportation etc. To be relatively comfortable while I am in Nassau. Any advice is appreciated.

I live on a family island, but I find the COL in Nassau across the board 20% higher than in Miami excluding rent. Rent is 25% cheaper than in Miami. There are plenty of websites that will give you specific cost comparisons of specific goods contrasted to specific world cities. Just google "cost of living Nassau". You'll find updated info to date

$3000 monthly for living expenses w/o concession of an automobile. Bahamas is expensive. To live according to the U.S. is a minimum 50% higher. For a family, that amount would double.

Jupiter, your post is spot-on. I have found some properties that I would live in...that were $3,000./month which were unfurnished also. In any location...just count the tourists and you will see the cost of living...Bahamas or Costa Rica, wherever it is. No tourism=lower costs. I hope the pay scale is sufficient to cover utilities, dining out, etc. & all other expenses.

Working out by the airport, the Cable Beach area would be a good choice. There are a number of gated communities along Cable Beach. Sandyport would be the most expensive. There is Nautica, Hampton Ridge, as well as a number of others.
You will definitely be able to find something for $3000/month, furnished, along Cable Beach. There are actually quite a few between $1500 - $2500.
Check out some of the realty websites, such as hgchriste.com; sirbahamas.com. Check the rentals and advance search by Cable Beach.
As for wages, everyone needs to determine what they would be most comfortable with. Also, ask your potential employer whether there is any housing allowance included. If you don't ask, you may not get!
Good luck, and feel free to ask any other questions.
