Hi All
My husband and i got jobs in Nassau. We are moving end of March . We have a 9 month old baby girl and even though we are excited about the new opportunity, i'm a bit anxious about my baby since we will both be working and it means i need to make an arrangement from day 1. How much does day care cost in Nassau? is it easy to find a good nanny and how much would that cost? what would you recommend: day care or nanny? Which day care facilities would you recommend? if there are any expat moms or dads who can share their experiences,i would greatly appreciate.

Congratulations on the job and your move to Nassau!!!

As a parent, I know the stress of finding daycare for a child.

I was very fortunate to find a very loving woman to care for my 3 month old son as I had to return to a very busy dental practice.

Having said that, I decided to schedule more play-groups when I noticed after 2 years or so that my son needed more social engagement.

Eventually by 3 and half he began preschool. He is now 12 and still very fond of his former caretaker and we still consider her family.

I recently sourced a daycare for a colleague of mine that has a two year old.

I was delighted to find TLC Daycare and just realized that a lovely woman that attends our church actually works there!e link is listed below.

Congrats on your jobs! It is not very often that both partners start with jobs!

What part of the island will you be living and working in? That might make a difference in the choice you make. Hopefully I can give you some ideas.

Ah - if you are working in downtown, if your hours are "regular" working hours, (aka 9 am - 5 pm), and you are intending to live west-ish, count on a 45 - 60 minute commute at peak times. That said, along Cable Beach is definitely a good location. Depending on your budget, you should be able to find good accommodations, furnished for between $1500 - $3000.

Out west, at Caves, there is a nursery and preschool - ages 3 months +

Finding a GOOD nanny requires more time and effort to find as many come from abroad and require work permits. Once you are here, you can talk with others to get their feedback about this, but this daycare in Caves is also beside a pediatrician, and in a safe, reputable location. It would likely be in the opposite direction for you in relation to work, but depending upon where you live, may only be 5 to 15 minutes away.

Here is another one a bit further west (away from downtown) - http://www.kidzabcnurseryandmultilingualpreschool.com/ourschool

And one downtown - https://www.facebook.com/pg/LittleGrowingMindsAftercare/about/?ref=page_internal (this one I have not heard anything about)

There are many more preschool options, but only once your child is 12 months +.

Hope that helps!
