My wife and I are moving to Brussels and have a home computer that we would like to take. Has anyone bought transformers for their home computer and used it in Belgium? Any advice on this topic would be appreciated. Thanks Vance Clement

" Vance, You should be able to pick up a transformer very reasonable and it will work just fine. I have a laptop I brought to Belgium and it already had an adaptor for the 220. You might check with your computer store and see if it has that capability already, then you would just need the plug in outlet. If you need anything for moving to Brussels, I would be happy to help. I found bringing salad dressing (good Seasons) helpful and Orville''s popcorn, glad lock bags or ziplock bags, some of your favorite spices, like apple pie, or pumpkin pie spice (can''t find here) if you have children, peanut butter and marshmallows, nestle''s chocolate chips. Are you moving your household goods, the bedding here is different. Different sizes in pillows and pillow cases and sheets and comforters. Pizza cutter for home use, when you eat pizza out here you use a knife and fork. The best chocolates I found here have been CaCao which is a small chocolatier the is on the road from Brussels, towards Antwerpen and it is close to Machelen. I can give you more specifics if you need to. Cheers, Denise "

" Most home computers have wide-range power supplies - you may be able to simply throw a small recessed switch on the back of your computer to be able to use it on 220/240 V systems. Check the back - it should say something like 100-240V, 50-60Hz if it is wide range. Typically the switch is red, and recessed - you''d throw the switch with the point of a pen. Make sure to check your peripherals, too - the monitor and printer, for example. We use power transformers for mostly smaller appliances - some minor stereo gear that is not dual-voltage (not the power amp, though) , and some small kitchen appliances like a hand mixer. For larger stuff - especially high-power items - it''s probably cheaper to just buy new stuff than to buy a large (1kw) transformer.
