" I have been working in Switzerland for 3 years and got a bit fed up with the country. Recently I got a chance of relocating to Brussels. Belgian salary appears to be significantly lower than Swiss salary. That''s one thing. Another is I am a non-EU national, I wonder what is the policy of work permit renewal. Is it enough that the employer continues to hire me? If I accept the offer, I am prepared to sacrifice my Swiss wage but I am not willing to risk my job security for some government bureaucracy. "

" Sorry I am so late to respond to your question. As I understand it the Work Permit is valid per Employer. For example, if I am hired by a Company, it is their responsibility to get all the necessary paperwork, work permit, Visa, etc. This is what I went through in Belgium; I was brought over as an XPAT and when my assignment was over I was to go back to the US. I applied for and received another job for another company. Since I already had my Visa and work permit for Belgium, I could ride out the remainder of the year, then when it was time to renew, they put the necessary paperwork together and filed for an extension of the work permit. The Visa for more than 3 months is normally applied for only once, then the residency and work permits are an extension to the Visa. I hope this is not too late and if you need more information please don''t hesitate to ask, my email address is goltz@lucent.com "
