American citizens are required to file their 1040 every year, even if they live overseas, and declare world-wide income, subject to deductions and exemptions.

Belize has an income tax that is somewhat different than US. You must register (similar to Social Security card). Your employer will pay 10% tax to the government.

Belize has a social insurance program, rather similar to US Social Security. You will pay into it, in a similar manner.

If you are self-employed, you are still responsible for paying these Belize taxes, generally monthly.

On your 1040, your Belize income up to the annual limit may be exempted if the number of days you are outside the US is at least 330. Counting this is complex, to say the least. You may be able to claim a credit for Belize income taxes (not social insurance) against your US taxes.
