No offense but that's way too general of a question. Sure you could live that cheaply in various places in Belize, but also in Mex, Panama, and many other countries. But how will you handle the airfare back and forth, and how about health issues you may have? And what if you don't like where you move? You have to make decisions on your own situation, your research, and checking countries out ahead of time. No one can make such a decision for you. No one can know all the many factors in your life to offer you much advice.

You're welcome. I didn't mean to sound evasive, there's just so many factors to consider.

Keep doing research but watch out for some of the 'advice' out there. Some can be very misleading and inaccurate. People may give their experiences but sometimes they fail to give all the facts.

It helps to visit various areas of Belize and see what you like. I'm on my 4th fact finding trip and still have lots to learn. Like many foreign countries, things can be confusing.

Good luck.

Wow! First of all congratulations for living on $2300 in the States - I don't know how you're doing that.

It's clear you've mastered good budgetary practices. This makes me think that yes, you could definitely live in Belize on that amount, quite comfortably in fact, However, you should stay away from the islands and some of the coastal towns as they tend to be more expensive.

A good option for you would be the Cayo District. I rent a 2 bedroom/1 bath for $250 usd there. Also, I know many, many single women living here in Belize alone, so that's doable too.

But before you can 100% answer your question, you really need to come visit Belize to see if you like it and could accept the lifestyle here, because after all, the only consideration is not cost.

Hope that helps. Sharon Hiebing

I think you hit the nail on the head.
Who do you trust, where to get "real" info. etc.
Unfortunately I won't have the option of making fact finding trips. I guess I'll have to be patience and find contacts on-line I can trust . I've seen alot about how great Belize is.....I'm also looking into Ecuador. I just afraid the S*** will hit the fan( SWHTF) economy wise and I'll be trapped here??????. It will be mid 2012 before I will be prepared for my move..... Thanks again

Hi Sharon,
Nice to hear from you. I have learned to be very frugal over the last 10 years. I live a very simple life. I'd love to be able to come see the country but the cost of a trip would set me back many months on my projected time line to try to get out of Usa. Could you give me a hint about the lifestyle. Is there access to english tv channels like Direct TV....? Is the local food hard to get use to. I really don't know what to ask. I don't know if it's allowed to post my email in the open form, but if allowable, I'd really like to start a network of contacts in the 2 countries I'm interested in re-locating to....Let me know if I can give out my email address...
Joe

Hi Joe! Nice to meet you too. I'm sure you could give your email out, but I'm not a forum moderator or anything, so can't be 100% sure.

Even if you could afford to live in Belize, I would say to you that with such a tight budget, it would be risky for you to proceed with a move of this magnitude. First, because you won't be able to do proper research (i.e. not affording to visit first).

And second because moving countries does have associated costs (transportation, hotels/eating out until you can find permanent housing, utility start up fees, furnishings, etc.).

I'd work on building some reserves if I were you, and then check back in on this idea then. Not trying to crush your dream, but too many people come here with not enough money and don't make it.

Your's is exactly the kind of input I'm looking for. I realize I'm a very long time off from making any sort move. I think there are" companies"(people) that assist folks like me in the planing process, but I'm hoping that with some leg work of my own and making connections with people that have done this themselves, I'll gain the knowledge required to make an informed correct decision. I,m , for sure not going to hop on the next flight out....lol.
Also since my sole means of income is SSDI. I'm getting concerned about the changing status of the dollar and possibly the way other countries will view the USA......I'm just looking into feasibility of my "dream" becoming reality... : )

Well, Joe, I'm actually one of those "companies" that do help people relocate (Wealth Ships is an Expat Relocation Consulting business I started here in Belize).

However, I'd get no pleasure misleading you about your circumstances just to get your business, or watching your dream become a nightmare. Companies who need business that bad should be ashamed of themselves.

I really do hope you get whatever it is you desire in life. Best wishes, Sharon Hiebing

Humm,,, That reply caught me off guard. I had no idea you had a business and meant no offence . I can only assume by your reply that a person in my situation and financial position shouldn't consider relocating.
Did I say something wrong??? Your last post was like a "Goodbye" ?

Oh no no no - not at all. I just wanted you to know, because you mentioned "companies" who help with these matters, that I am in fact one of them.

I didn't take offense to your comments at all. I just wanted you to know that's what I do for a living here in Belize.

But I'm not going anywhere :)

Hi Joe and Sharon,

Joe, my husband and I are interested in researching Belize as well. Are there any current developers that are offering a weekend or weekday stay for participation in a sales/timeshare spill ? I know they have them all the time in Fla. Make sure with your previous MI you will have adequate cardiology care wherever you wind up :)

Sharon,
Glad to see you have done what I've done in Dubai :) Wherever my DH and I wind up, I will be looking to do the same there.

Also, DH and I are looking into the possibility of house sitting for anyone from april 15th thru May 14th if you guys know anyone interested. We have a house in Dubai we can do a trade on!
