I found this developement and was wondering if anyone can provide more information about it. As much as I like the idea of it, I don't want to leave the USA to move to the USA in Belize. Any information you can provide would be helpful. Also, I am planning a information gathering trip and need a list of the 'Must Visit' locations for a possible relocation. We want to get the feel of the country and not a false version of it.
Thanks everyone, Bill

Gary, Thanks for all of the information as it is very helpful. I don't see any comments on Sanctuary Belize. There is just a link which I already have. I am looking for 'real world' feedback on the development. Can you comment further on this?

Anybody who is interested in SB, should read this article.
If nothing else, if you are planning to invest, you should be award of the controversy that surrounds the project.

At least when you visit, you can ask the right questions.

SPmQQse is our local troll. He lives in San Pedro and apparently someone he knew there was murdered. The person was apparently quite nice, but there was some question that the incident may have been drug related. Most of his posts are just copies of what you received.
Best to ignore him. If he could channel is anger about Belize into something more positive, things might change here.
The one thing he does highlight - is that you have to do your research. Belize is not for everyone. Many people arrive here, thinking it's a warmer version of Toronto. And it's not. Like every third world country that I have been to, Belize has it's share of crime. Mostly petty theft, but I saw more theft living in Atlanta. There have been murders here, like everywhere, people do that to each other, it's certainly not unique to Belize. But admittedly, the police investigations are slow, and ineffecient. The Justice system, well, it certainly needs improvement. The biggest crime that I have witnessed here is what expat builders do to other expats. Making huge profits from unsuspecting retirees. People buy land/property/ houses here, paying excess for their purchases, because they believe the contractor's BS. They don't investigate the actual cost of building or the real price of land. Then when they leave Belize and try to sell their overpriced property, and can't sell. Then they see that they over paid and have to take a substantial loss to sell it. But the builder made his profit.
Many people arrive and seem to leave within 2-3 years. Some leave because they can't adapt to life here. It's not what they thought it would be. Others leave because of medical issues. ( for example, Mexico's medical system is far superior) Others leave because they miss not having time with their grandchildren or miss their friends.
The ones that choose to stay, usually love it here and don't want to live anywhere else.
But don't take my word on any of this. Everyone has individual likes and dislikes and tolerance levels. Before you put any money down on any property here, plan to spend 6 months here, at a minimum. Find an area that you think you might want to buy in and rent. You'll know soon enough whether or not you and your partner can adapt.
There is a saying in Belize that " your second house will be twice as big and half the price of your first house". Everything here is done by networking. If you do decide to stay, the six moths here would not have been wasted, you'll have your network and probably find better options for yourself than the ideas you arrived with. You also may find, that you prefer a different area than you first thought you would enjoy. By renting - you have the option to move around.
Unfortunately, SPmQQse didn't or isn't following his own advice. But, I guess if you come here and hate it, like he does, then that's what you turn into.

Nichi, Thank you for your wonderful response. My wife and I don't have any space for negativism in our lives. We get to much of that in the states. SPmQQse should keep to them self if they don't have anything good to say.
I look forward to meeting you some day soon.

It is really sad to hear that SPmQQse, our only current troll on this Forum is sending a very negative Private Message to every poster who expresses is considering Belize as a place to relocate. Very ironic that he still lives here. Possibly he doesn't want more expats to move here, as he assumes it will ruin things.
But we all have the option to alert the owner/operator of this website that we have a problematic member. All Forums have rules of etiquette that our resident troll is clearly not adhering to. If he is sending these types of private messages to those of you who come to this Forum seeking general info about Belize, you certainly have the option to complain to the Forum owner/operator.

Bill, When you go onto my blog, storiesbygary.wordpress.com you have to click on Sept 2013 under Archives on right side of screen. This will open blogs including 4 separate for each day of Sanctuary Belize tour. Also, just FYI, the comments including " reading this article about problems with owners" is basically bull**it you read it, scroll to end and nite the author was taken to court for miss info ! The previous "crooks" involved are no longer. Investment is as secure as you can get anywhere. Remember, you are working with a company in California ! With restrictions up their butts. Just saying. Go down and check out for yourself, then you decide my friend. Cheers

As an owner at Sanctuary Belize, I can assure you that we have been scammed, lied to, harassed, and the same people that were there during Sanctuary Bay lawsuit, are still involved in the project! Beware. However, if you want to buy my lot for cheap, I'll be really happy to get rid of it! BTW, there's over 400 other owners who would love to get rid of theirs too!

As the " original responder" to this thread, back when I first purchased my lot at then " Sanctuary Belize" and was shall we say " moonstruck"??, I would like to update my early rep,it's from 2013. The " development" originally known as " Sanctuary Bay", changed their name to " Sanctuary Belize". Recently for " some reason" ??, the developers have again changed the name to " The Reserve". Just wanted future expats to be aware of facts.
